Having lived in NYC, the Artist saw its subway system as a study in isolation, where people avoid making eye contact
with each other and look all ways but at each other. This work captures the isolation of the riders who
despite being physically closer to their fellow human beings have compromised their humanity and couldn't
be further apart. As if the remoteness were not enough, the one individual feels the need for an
added layer of protection and dons shades.
